3/4" floating dial plastic bench compass. Watchmakers use these to find thier way home after a night of celebrating. Seriously; watchmakers use a small magnetic compass on thier bench to pass parts and tools over in order to detect magnetism. If the compass moves the part needs to be demagnetized.
When I was a boy I had small compasses all the time but when I became a watchmaker and needed one I had a difficult time finding any small enough. I recently found a supply of these mini compasses with floating dials that function perfectly to detect magnetized small parts and tools.
